Couple Commits Suicide Over Foreclosure Via Oregonian

The reporter starts the story by saying,

"It was a grim sign of the times: an older couple found dead at their own hands inside the home they recently lost in a failed foreclosure battle."

Which "sign of the times" is this? Is there a rash of people committing suicide because of foreclosure? If any thing bad happens during a foreclosure is that a "sign of the times?" He was playing on the all of the other recent news but shouldn't an editor think twice about that line?

This was a horrible situation by some people in a difficult situation. They had done some kind of bankruptcy in 2004 and 2006. This was a suicide for the reason many suicides happen, people feel there is no hope.
